Our home care

Home care that fits around your life.

Practical, unhurried help at home across Appleby and the Eden Valley, from a small team of carers who get to know you. Visits from 30 minutes, once a week or several times a day.

What we help with

Care built around your routines, not ours.

Home care means a trained carer visiting you at home to help with the things that have become hard to manage alone. Everything we do is written into a care plan you agree with us first, and you can change it whenever you need to.

Part of every visit

Meals, home help and good company

Most people don't need one thing; they need a bit of help with several. Alongside personal care and medication, your carer can help with:

  • Meals and drinks. Cooking a proper breakfast or tea, making sure there's plenty to drink, and help with eating if you need it.
  • Around the house. Washing up, laundry, changing the bed and keeping walkways clear so the house stays safe to move around.
  • Errands. Shopping lists, picking up prescriptions and the post, and trips into town.
  • Company. A proper chat, a walk to the shop, help staying in touch with family and friends.
  • Keeping an eye. Carers notice when something isn't right, such as a change in appetite, mood or mobility, and tell the people who need to know.

Companionship-only visits, overnight respite and live-in care are planned for later. Let us know if you're interested and we'll keep you posted.

Who it's for

For anyone who wants to stay at home, safely

We support adults of any age in their own homes, most often older people who want to keep living independently. That includes people:

  • finding everyday tasks harder because of age, frailty or a long-term condition
  • recovering from a fall, an operation or a stay in hospital
  • living with memory problems, who are calmer with familiar faces and a settled routine
  • whose husband, wife or family does most of the caring and needs a regular break

If you're not sure whether home care is right, call us. We'll give you honest advice, even if that means pointing you somewhere else.

How it starts

From first call to first visit, at your pace.

  1. A conversation

Call us or send an enquiry, and we'll talk through what would help.

  2. A visit at home

Our manager visits you, with family there if you'd like, to understand your routines.

  3. Your care plan

We write the plan with you, and our prices come in writing before you agree.

  4. Meet your carers

You meet your small team, visits begin, and we review the plan regularly.

Questions

Questions about home care.

Are you regulated?

We're applying to register with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) for personal care. We won't deliver any personal care until registration is confirmed, and we'll tell everyone on our waiting list as soon as it is. First visits are planned for summer 2027.

I live outside Appleby. Can you still help?

Very often, yes. Our daily rounds cover about 7 miles around Appleby, and we visit people across the Eden Valley by arrangement, including Penrith, Kirkby Stephen, Brough and Shap. Longer or regular visits are easiest to arrange. Check your village or get in touch for a straight answer.

How quickly can care start?

Care starts once our CQC registration is confirmed. After that, usually within a week or two of the home visit. If we can't cover something safely, we'll say so rather than over-promise.

What's the shortest visit you offer?

30 minutes. We don't do 15-minute calls for personal care, because there isn't time to do it properly.

Will it be the same carer each time?

Each person has a small team of regular carers, so there's always someone familiar to cover holidays and days off. We introduce anyone new before their first visit.

Can my family see how visits are going?

Yes, with your permission. Family members can read visit notes through our care app, and you choose who has access.

How much does home care cost?

We charge by the hour, with set rates for evenings, weekends and bank holidays, and you get our prices in writing before you agree to anything. See fees and funding for our rates and the help available with paying.
